Academic Due Dates

Students need to learn that a due date given by a teacher is firm. This means that to complete an assignment a student must do some planning. This is true especially for extended assignments that may take more than two days.

The student should write out the steps that are needed to complete the assignment. Then the steps should be written on a calendar. The written steps are the signal to a student about what has to be done each day to finish the assignment.

This planning skill is used throughout life. The more quickly the student learns how to do this, the sooner the student will become successful. This can be taught to students of all ages.
